What Will I Learn?

The foundation for the eight-month program experience with Future Milwaukee is the following three areas:

Learning Goals

Through experiential exercises and group projects participants will develop leadership and team skills
  Participants will increase their knowledge of issues facing Milwaukee through presentations on these issues by area leaders involved in each issue
  Develop a passion for community service via exposure to many people and institutions in the Milwaukee community
  Through experiential exercises and by engaging in a project with a not-for-profit agency participants will gain skills necessary for working in a diverse world
  Participants will examine own leadership and team skills by engaging in reflective practices throughout the class
  Using the Leadership Practices Inventory participants will measure their leadership learning and create an action plan for continued development

Learning Experiences


World Café – a discussion technique involving class participants and guests from the Greater Milwaukee area
  Tour of Milwaukee by Urban Anthropology, Inc.
  Presentations by area leaders
  Team building exercises
  Methods for engaging in personal reflection
  Group project serving a not-for-profit agency
  Group project with a neighborhood or school group
  Working with diverse individuals in teams
  Networking with a wide variety of people from different professions, ages, races, ages, educational backgrounds at each meeting during dinner

Learning Tools

Kouzes & Posner’s Leadership Practices Inventory, a 360° feedback tool on leadership skills comparing a self rating with observations by colleagues. Twice a year a comprehensive report is generated for each participant.
